VGP - A lantern festival and a live television program entitled “Harmony of Culture, Aspiration for Peace” were held on July 31 at Hà Nội, Vientiane and Paris.

The program was organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Hà Nội People’s Committee, and the Việt Nam Buddhist Sangha.

During the program, footages about the close friendship between President Hồ Chí Minh and Laos’ leaders and people, talks about Việt Nam’s age-old traditional culture, and UNESCO’s recognition of cultural celebrities and heritages, were displayed, sending messages about cultural similarities, cultural harmony, and aspiration for peace among Hà Nội, Vientiane and Paris.

Also on July 31, the Việt Nam Buddhist Sangha and the Hà Nội Buddhist Sangha held a lantern festival entitled “Thăng Long Hallmarks” at the site of the Thăng Long Imperial Citadel. It was part of the grand Buddhism festival to celebrate the 1,000th founding anniversary of Thăng Long–Hà Nội. It was held to honor ancestors, King Lý Thái Tổ and great Buddhist monks who helped establish and develop the imperial city.
