The program was organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese
under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Hà Nội
People’s Committee, and the Việt Nam Buddhist Sangha.
During the program, footages about the close friendship between
President Hồ Chí Minh and Laos’
leaders and people, talks about Việt Nam’s
age-old traditional culture, and UNESCO’s recognition of cultural celebrities and
heritages, were displayed, sending messages about cultural similarities, cultural
harmony, and aspiration for peace among Hà Nội, Vientiane
and Paris.
Also on July 31, the Việt Nam Buddhist Sangha and the Hà Nội Buddhist Sangha held a lantern festival entitled “Thăng Long Hallmarks” at the site of the Thăng Long Imperial
Citadel. It was part of the grand Buddhism festival to celebrate the 1,000th
founding anniversary of Thăng Long–Hà Nội. It was held to honor ancestors, King
Lý Thái Tổ and great Buddhist monks who helped establish and develop the
imperial city.
